FLOOD defences in Northwich are being erected again today, January 27, with rain forecast over the coming days.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in the north west, coming into effect at midnight tonight and lasting 24 hours.
It is currently forecasting rain in town from 9pm this evening until noon tomorrow, before returning at 7pm until Friday morning.
No flood warnings are currently in force for Northwich from the Environment Agency, and it says the erection of temporary defences is being done as a precaution.
In a post on Twitter, an Environment Agency spokesman said: “Following recent flooding events in Northwich and due to further forecasted rain, we have taken the decision to deploy Phase 1 of the Northwich Flood Scheme and erect temporary defences at Barons Quay.

“We are not expecting any impacts but this is being done as a precaution to provide reassurance to the community and protect people and properties from any potential high river levels.”
Northwich was battered by Storm Christoph last week, as heavy rain led to the town centre, Acton Bridge and Weaverham being severely flooded.
