THIS was the scene at the weekend as the M6 was shut in both directions due to roadworks.
The motorway was fully shut at junction 19 for Knutsford between Friday night and this morning, Monday.
It marked a ‘significant milestone’ in Highways England’s £43million upgrade of this stretch of the carriageway – with a bridge being installed across the route.
In spite of snowy conditions, cranes were used in order to move 36 huge 90 tonne beams into place.
The project hopes to improve the flow of traffic between the M6 and the A556 and reduce congestion around the roundabout.
It is expected that the scheme will be completed in the summer.
A second full weekend closure will take place this weekend, from January 29 to February 1.
