DEVELOPERS have pulled the plug on plans for up to 75 new homes off Griffiths Road.

The scheme, which would have been called Waterside, was set to include new homes on three parcels of land by the side of the Trent and Mersey Canal – to the north of Rudheath.

In a planning application lodged with Cheshire West and Chester Council last August, Waterside was described as ‘a new and welcoming gateway into the village’ with new green spaces ‘in which the community will want to spend time’.

But now, the proposal has been withdrawn by the applicants.

An email sent by planning agent Steve Grimster to CWAC on Monday said: “Further to my discussions with the applicant earlier today, I now write to formally withdraw the application which the applicant is unable to proceed with further at this time.”

CWAC had received an objection to the scheme due to its proximity to Lostock Works and the planned ‘energy for waste’ site, which is expected to be complete in 2024.

It said: “No evidence is presented within the planning application to identify how future residents of the proposed development would be affected by existing and permitted industrial noise sources in the area.”

Rudheath Parish Council also objected to the plans, suggesting it would be ‘pushing the local infrastructure to its maximum’ alongside other developments, including the incinerator.
