CHESHIRE should brace itself for more wintery weather, the Met Office has warned.
The service has issued a further yellow weather warning for snow and ice across the north west from 6pm today, Wednesday, to 2pm tomorrow.
The warning urges caution from motorists due to the risk of icy patches forming on untreated roads.
Pedestrians and cyclists should also take particular care to reduce the risk of injuries from slips and falls.
Some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times by car, bus and train expected.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Showers of rain, sleet and snow will move south across parts of Scotland, north Wales and north England through Wednesday evening and into Thursday.
“While not all areas will see these, where they do fall ice is expected to form.
“The showers are also likely to fall as snow at times, mainly above 200m, but to some lower levels.
“Some accumulations of 1-3cm are likely, again mainly over higher ground, but 5cm or more is possible over parts of southern Scotland.”
On Twitter, Cheshire Police said: “The county is under a yellow warning from the Met Office for snow, and ice is a problem on some local roads.
“If you are out today, please keep safe – leave more time for your journey, drive to the conditions, leave more space between vehicles and check the forecast.”
