TATTON MP Esther McVey is urging people to support their local high streets and businesses and make 2021 the year of ‘buying British’ to support people back into work and to get the economy growing.
Ms McVey said businesses had faced months of uncertainty with repeated restrictions on trading and now more than ever they needed communities to get behind them.
She has launched a Buy British campaign, saying Tatton was a leading example of how communities came together to support each other throughout the pandemic, and communities needed to rally around and continue showing that support to their local high streets and businesses.
She said: “If ever there was a year for people to Buy British then 2021 is it. It needs to be a year of recovery, rediscovery and resetting our path in the world.
“Lockdown and restrictions for almost a year have wreaked havoc on our businesses, so next year we are going to need to show them our support, get the country back on its feet and boost our businesses like never before.
“We need them firing on all cylinders and rehiring the staff many businesses had to so sadly let go of over this pandemic period.”
Ms McVey said buying British would create more jobs and hopefully allow businesses to take back staff who had been laid off during the pandemic.
She hoped it would also create new careers for future generations with creative minds to deliver global solutions for new British industries and businesses as we broke ties with the European Union.
She added: “We all need to come together and rally around our businesses, big and small, local and international; we need to Buy British and be proud of what our nation produces and stand up for businesses right across the country.
“We all know Made in Britain is the hallmark of a high-quality product of which we can all be proud.
“So let’s make 2021 the year when we Buy British like never before to get our country’s economy going again as we move forward as a newly-created sovereign state free from the European Union.”
