CHRISTMAS market organisers were delighted with the support for a novel community event held on Sunday.
The Pickmere Driveway Christmas Market featured 12 stalls which were set up on residents’ drives, and ran from 11am to 3pm.
The aim of the market was to bring the village together, and the stalls featured a range of goods including mulled wine, jams, cakes, household goods, art and candles.
As well as Pickmere residents the market attracted people from neighbouring Wincham and surrounding areas.
The market also proved to be a huge success for Macmillan Cancer Support, donations from stallholders and the public totalling £700.
The market was organised by Simon Read, Naomi Petrou-Brown and Jane Norton.
Simon said: “The number of people who turned up was brilliant, and we had a few more than I expected.
“The market put a smile on everybody’s faces, the stallholders were all very happy with the way the day went and the people who visited were really happy with it.
“The event was a different way of bringing the village together again, and there was a very good community feeling.
“It was a cold day, but it remained dry apart from one little shower, and it took about half an hour to walk from one end of the village to the other.
“Being outside on people’s drives made it fun, and we will be doing it next year – everyone enjoyed it and wants to come back and do it again.”
People were asked to maintain social distancing and give priority to the elderly, and a highlight of the day was the support of the stallholders and public for Macmillan.
Simon added: “We gave an envelope to every stallholder and invited donations, and the public also donated their change.
“We raised £700, which is absolutely amazing, and the money from the mulled wine stall went to Macmillan, which is an excellent charity and one that everyone recognises.”
