A WINSFORD town councillor has resigned from the Labour Party.
Cllr Stella Mellor, who represents Grange and Verdin, says she now plans to stand as an independent member.
The 47-year-old said: “I am sad because I have been a supporter of the party my whole life. My family going back generations is Labour.”
Cllr Mellor was elected in May last year.
A spokesman for Winsford Town Council Labour Group said: “We are aware of reports that Cllr Mellor has resigned from the Labour Party. It's always regrettable when any party member chooses to resign but we recognise it is an individual decision.

“The local Labour party worked hard in May 2019 to get all Labour candidates elected, including Cllr Mellor. Any elected representative who leaves the party which residents voted for should consider their position.
“The Labour-led Winsford Town Council will continue to deliver its aspirational programme for Winsford.”
