NORTHWICH Artisan Market will make its return next month in a new location.

The popular monthly event usually takes place along Witton Street on the second Saturday of each month.

Coronavirus means the market has been put on hold for the past few months, but it will make its return on Saturday, August 8, in a new home.

Next month’s Northwich Artisan Market will take place at Barons Quay, rather than Witton Street, with the new location more suitable for social distancing than the usual spot.

The Market Co, which runs the market, says the move is temporary to ensure shoppers’ safety.

A comment from the market on its Facebook page said: “Due to the vast amount of street furniture and additional outdoor seating areas that have been created, as well as the narrowing of Witton Street from Pound Bakery down to Crown Street, it is just impossible to create a layout that will allow adequate social distancing [in Witton Street].

“We are taking advantage of the premises in Barons Quay which are yet to be occupied by putting the gazebos right up to the shop fronts to create a large outdoor space in front of our traders for people to pass safely and queue at safe distances.

“Our priority is to make sure it is safe, and as soon as we are confident that we can return to the high street we will be there.”

Outdoor markets have been able to run since June 1 if they are able to operate in a ‘Covid-secure’ way.

The Market Co has already run its first events since lockdown began in Wilmslow on June 20 and in Urmston on July 4.
