AN avid royalist who attended the coronation of King George VI has received a letter from The Queen.

John ‘Jack’ Seddon, who currently lives at Sandiway Lodge Nursing Home but is originally from Winsford, has always been a huge supporter of the Royal Family, according to the nursing staff that work there.

So much so that he attended the coronation of The Queen’s father back in 1937, when Jack was only six years old.

Recalling his trip from Cheadle to London, Jack said: “It was all very exciting.

“It was a lovely sunny day and the lady who took me was Mrs Parry.

“The procession was lovely and we had a lovely picnic.”

Staff at Sandiway Lodge say that Jack’s bedroom is full of Union Flags and Royal Family memorabilia, but the one thing that he wanted to do most of all was to send a letter to The Queen.

And thanks to the help of the nurses, he was able to do so.

Northwich Guardian:

Shortly after sending his letter however, staff were thrilled to spot a letter in reply in the post, sent from The Queen’s Lady in Waiting from Windsor Castle.

The letter read: “The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter, which Linda Jones has kindly sent to Her Majesty on your behalf.

“The Queen greatly appreciated your message of continuing support for her and the Royal family, and I am to thank you very much once again.”

Northwich Guardian:

Linda, activities coordinator at Sandiway Lodge, says that Jack was over the moon after hearing that The Queen had replied to him and that he will treasure the letter forever.

“He has always been besotted with the Queen, and if we go shopping in Northwich, we always have to visit W.H. Smith to buy a magazine which contains articles about her,” she said.

“When he received his reply from The Queen, he was so excited.

“He has both the envelope and the letter laminated and encased in a photo frame in his room.”
