While we are all rightly proud of our NHS, who is honest enough to admit that, in the past, they have kind of taken it for granted? Not anymore. What the terrible coronavirus pandemic has highlighted, practically on a minute by minute basis, is what a magnificent and vital creation the NHS is – and the people who staff the NHS, who make it work, even in such unprecedent times – are among the bravest and most dedicated workforces anywhere in the world.
While standing on our doorsteps on a Thursday evening and clapping may seem a bit trivial, nevertheless, it’s the least we can do to show our appreciation for these amazing and courageous people. To all NHS staff, we applaud you.

East Lancashire Railway - supports the NHS
Please can you help your local HERITAGE Railway.
It has taken many years and a lot of skill, dedication and EXPENCE to restore the steam locomotives pictured above from rusting hulks of metal in a scrapyard and return them to full working order.
Their regular use hauling passenger trains over the 12 miles of The ELR owned railway from Heywood to Rawtenstall has made The East Lancashire Railway a major attraction for visitors to Bury and the surrounding area.
We are unable to operate right now due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
The ELR therefore has NO passengers, consequently NO income.
The staff have been furloughed but despite this drastic measure our costs have increased as we felt compelled to employ Licensed Security Staff in order to protect our Heritage assets.
We are mindful of the financial restraints on everyone in these difficult times. Any contribution that you are able to make to our fundraising appeal will hopefully mean that we are able to provide you with an enjoyable day out for families once the country has recovered from the difficulties this terrible virus has caused.
If you can donate funds, please do so via the ELR website

Zest Living – supports our NHS
Zest Living is an innovative homecare service with the aim of offering something different to the industry.
In this time of crisis, it’s important for our online readers to understand what we are doing to keep our carers and clients safe from the global pandemic COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus.
Below is a list of actions we will be taking to help protect both our clients and carers. The extra measures we have put into place to address this crisis.
To help ensure that our clients do not get sick as a result of COVID 19 we have implemented several policies and rules to protect them.
Before and after a client visit: Carers are required to wash their hands thoroughly with soap & hot water before attending a client visit and after finishing with the client. Carers are provided with their own towel.
Equipment: We are continuing to supply the carers with gloves, aprons, hand-sanitizer, and masks.
Checking your temperature regularly: We have infrared thermometers for anybody wishing to check their temperature.
Communication between management and carers: We have increased our line of communication between our office management team and our carers. Our management team are now in the field delivering essentials to our carer outside the client’s house.
Getting our clients their everyday essentials: Shopping – household essentials, food, and drink will now be picked up by our carers from the local supermarket.
Keeping the family informed: Regular updates will be sent to family members to ensure they understand what care is being delivered and to gain insight into the client’s mental health.
Government guidelines: We are encouraging staff to follow all government and health expert guidelines. This includes keeping two metres away from others when out in public, washing your hands regularly, and covering your mouth when coughing.
Getting in touch: If you would like to talk to us about obtaining care for a loved one in the Cheshire area feel free to give us a ring on 0161 941 6677 for a telephone assessment.
The government guidelines in regards to COVID-19 can be found on the NHS website.
