AFTER asking for your favourite barber in town, we have been trimming down your hundreds of messages, tweets and Facebook comments to find six of the best across Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich and Knutsford.
We were delighted to see so much positive feedback, be it for a warm welcome, consistency, or accommodating wriggling children.
It was a close shave, but – as part of our 160th anniversary celebrations, we have pulled together a top six based on the volume of comments and the messages with the most detail as to why a barber shop was simply the best.
CLOAK AND DAGGER, Wheelock Street, Middlewich.
Formerly Dads and Lads, this barbershop has been a much-loved feature of the high street for a number of years.
Always evolving under the stewardship of Mark Kirk, it won praise for its friendliness.
Mark Walker told us: “The appointment system is great, and Mark and Luke are both great to chat with and brilliant with kids.”
CRATE, Crown Street, Northwich.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2018, CRATE has won plaudits for evolving the ‘haircut experience’ through extra offerings such as a bar and live music.
It has played a big part in community events, including the recent fundraiser for traders hit by the devastating market fire.
Lee McKeown said: “My little boy and I have been using CRATE Hair for about 18 months, since just after his first birthday.
“Charles and Jordan have always been very accommodating and every visit is a pleasure.”
GUYS, Canute Pl, Knutsford.
A longstanding fixture in the town, Guys is a classic ‘family business’ success story.
Thomas Myerscough said: “The staff are always friendly and seem so happy to see you – whether it’s your first visit or you have been going there for decades.”
JOHNSON, Queen Street, Northwich.
‘Johnnos’ gents’ hair salon is firmly engrained in the community, from fundraising efforts to fighting back from the devastating floods at the turn of the millennium.
Peter Holland said: “Brilliant customer service from all the staff, a cut above the rest and so helpful.”
LLOYDS, Wallerscote Road, Weaverham.
It can be really tough to find a barber who makes young children feel comfortable – although many of the messages we received praised barbers’ accommodating nature.
One that stood out was Lloyds – another stalwart of the area.
John-Paul Dixon said: “Mark was not fazed when I introduced my twin boys, who both have additional needs.
“Mark was fun and entertaining to the kids and gave them a great haircut too. I get my hair cut regularly too and his online booking means I can book it anytime of the night for the next day.”
PATRON, Delamere Street, Winsford.
‘Barber of the Year’ in the north west for 2019, Patron serves up speciality craft ale and lager as well as top haircuts.
It caters for all ages too, as Kelly De Paolo told us.
“I had a very wary three-year-old and the guys at Patron made him feel very comfortable,” she said.
“My hubby, stepsons, brother and sons all go here.”
