AHEAD of the summer holidays getting into full swing, our new columnist and travel expert Angela Perkins has been revealing families' most popular holiday destinations this year and sharing some of her top tips regarding travelling with children.
School's out for summer and many families are now looking forward to a break abroad.
Here are Angela's top five most popular short and long haul travel destinations for families this July and August.
Majorca
Majorca is a popular choice with families due to the short flight and abundance of family-friendly resorts.
We spent last summer here and it was beautiful.
Our favourites spots were Pollensa and Formentor - such stunning beaches.
Turkey
Turkey has really come back in popularity this year after a few quieter years. The resorts have so much to offer and so much to do for families.
Many are offering water slides which is a must have on many family holiday wish lists.
Mexico
Mexico has been popular for a number of years now due to the deluxe family resorts available.
Mauritius
Even though it's a far away tropical destination, Mauritius can be affordable luxury for families during the summer holidays.
Florida
Florida is always a hit with families during the summer with many taking advantage of the free Disney Dining Offer saving families thousands of pounds.
For those jetting off this summer, here are Angela's top tips for travelling with children:
- Travel sickness bands work well for those with air sickness or are great for boat trips and theme park rides too
- Baby wipes - I take these in every bag on holiday even though my children are six and 10 now! They are great for chocolate ice cream faces, sandy hands and cleaning cafe tables
- Sticker books are great for keeping the kids entertained whether you're travelling by aeroplane, ferry or car
- Don't forget some travel-sized games - Our family favourites are Dobble and cards. There are some great ones in shops including Scrabble and Connect 4
- Always pack a medicine bag - I always have calpol and piriton with me along with plasters when I'm travelling with the family
- Pack some goggles and swim toys for the pool
- iPads and headphones are great for long journeys but don’t forget to do your downloads the night before you set off
- Travel insurance is an absolute must
Exploring Greece
Angela added: "We are heading off on our own summer adventure and this year we are island-hopping around Greece with rucksacks and only one pair of shoes allowed each.
"I’m looking forward to introducing the children to Greece and doing something a little different. I look forward to updating you all on the adventure!"
