VENUES across Northwich will be pulsing with the sound of music as the Dead Dead Good Weekend celebrates the town’s rich musical heritage.
Taking its name from – and working with – the iconic record label which launched The Charlatans’ career, Dead Dead Good Weekend starts today, Thursday, May 9.

Organised by a collective of music fans and businesses, the event kicks off with an opening party at Salty Dog tonight, and closes on Saturday, May 11 with a performance from Cabbage, supported by Callow Youth and Delights at Memorial Court, plus a set at Salty Dog from Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock with Earl Slick of Iggy Pop and David Bowie fame.
A purpose-built Dead Good Stage has been set up in Barons Quay where there will be performances by artists including Mark Radcliffe’s UNE, The Snuts, Narcissus, Alfa 9, Aargh Kid and Winsford trio Deja Vega. There will also be sets from indie icons Clint Boon, Dave Booth and Dermo at Retros Music Bar.
As well as ticketed gigs, there’s a programme of free pop-up events, such as a pop choir and street dance performances, plus free gigs taking place in bars, barbershops and cafes. Real ale fans will be able to get hold of a pint of Dead Dead Good beer, made especially for the occasion by Tatton Brewery.
Coinciding with the festival, Abda café in Crown Street showcases the first major exhibition curated by its new events arm – Obeid Gallery and Events. Manchester Made Me features photography, music, merchandise, original art and rare personal archives, all provided by artists with strong links to Northwich and the Manchester music scene.
The exhibition was officially opened on Saturday by BBC 6 Music presenter Mark Radcliffe. It runs until May 31 and features work by a whole host of artists including Smashed Hits: Broken Vinyl and celebrated photographer Paul Husband, plus a large selection of Banned Network and Dead Dead Good memorabilia.
They’re also hosting a Q&A at Northwich Library on Saturday with the founder of Dead Dead Good and Omega Records Steve Harrison, Mark Radcliffe, and Oscar nominated filmmaker Mark Gill.
