IT’S the homecoming everyone has been waiting for.
The Charlatans met at Omega Records in Northwich and last played in the town in 1990.
Now they’re back to play four homecoming gigs and have brought their friends to take over the town.
North by Northwich kicks off tonight at 7pm.
Here’s all you need to know about it…
What is North by Northwich?
One of the biggest indie bands of the past 30 years, The Charlatans, hail from Northwich, and are hosting a homecoming festival.
It will feature four Charlatans gigs at Memorial Court, along with a 10-day town takeover, featuring a long list of gigs, audience with events, after parties, an exhibition and a vinyl record fair and much more.
What if I don’t have tickets?
Don’t worry – there are still plenty of free events, and you can still catch The Charlatans’ Friday night gig live on screen.
The Charlatans exhibition at Barons Quay opens at 7pm today (Thursday) and will run until May 20.
The vinyl record fair at The Plaza will run on May 18 and 19 – with plenty of added extras.
New band ShadowParty, made up of members from New Order and Devo, will play their first gig at The Plaza on May 18, with free entry to people who want to catch a piece of music history.
Witton Chimes will be hosting live music and a Charlatans Disco on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week, with free entry.
Food and Drink?
The band have pulled out the stops and have even worked with Northwich micro-brewery Sandiway Ales to produce an exclusive North by Northwich beer – CWNine. It’s available at all the main venues around town, just for the 10 days of the festival.
In terms of the food, one of the main reasons for turning the homecoming into a festival was to give back to the town and support Northwich businesses – so got and eat chips at The Seafarer, go for a meal at Wildwood, or even grab some Portuguese cuisine at Sunny BBQ (formerly the café on the cover of The Melting Pot album).
And as for the brews. The Charlatans have that covered too…
