BEAVERS and Cubs from 1st Davenham Scout Group have undertaken a charity ‘Walk for Water’ to raise awareness and money for WaterAid.
The six and seven-year-olds carried bottles of water from their village to Moulton and back, reflecting the journey undertaken by children in impoverished countries, who walk miles for water.
The water collected is often dirty and full of germs, leading to illness. The Beavers’ walk aimed to raise awareness of the Scout Association’s ‘A Million Hands’ initiative.
With 500,000 UK members of Scouts, a small effort to make a change from each will lead to one million hands involved.
Charity WaterAid is also supporting Scouts in Madagascar in raising awareness of the importance of hand washing and getting water pumps and toilets built.
Davenham Beaver Scouts have so far raised more than £500, with additional donations on the way.
nIf you would like to make a donation to help WaterAid achieve their aim of everyone, everywhere to have safe water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030, you can do so by heading online to justgiving.com/davenham-scouts
