A TOWN centre bar has taken its rapid growth to new levels by expanding to open an upstairs space for punters.

Baron’s Lounge in Witton Street opened in December and has quickly become a popular haunt.

Last week saw the opening of a new upstairs area which, although always part of the plan, is a reflection on the venue’s early success.

Andy McKnight, who runs the real ale bar with Alison Ramsden, said: “We always intended to move upstairs, and it comes after a good start to life in Northwich for us.

“It’s going for the same feel as downstairs – it’s a very relaxed and chilled lounge space.

“We also want to use it for private functions and have a couple of bookings already in place.”

One of the most striking features of the new space is a full-wall mural depicting Andy’s dog Luca on a walk near the Lion Salt Works Museum.

The iconic riverside scene was recreated by a Northwich artist from a photograph.

With the upstairs and downstairs of Baron’s Lounge fully functional, the next step is to capitalise on improving weather with an outside space. The outdoor area is due to open in the next few weeks.

Andy and Alison are also behind the popular Real Ale Shack in Warrington Market.

With four real ales, two real ciders, craft beers and continental lagers – together with three Guinness products – the bar offers a range of tastes.

One of the first visitors to the pub on its opening week was Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge, mayor of Northwich.
