DAVENHAM youngsters can learn some new moves at a Bollywood dance class next week.

Lalita’s Namastey India is launching the weekly classes at Davenham Methodist Hall.

The classes, which will be run by Lalita Sivakumar, will be held on Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm.

“Bollywood dance is a mixture of all these different dance forms,” Lalita said.

“You will find a bit of Indian casual dance, belly dance, Indian folk dance and you will find a bit of jazz and hip-hop.

“All of these dance forms fuse to become Bollywood dance.”

Lalita, from Kingsmead, also hosts weekly adult Bollywood dance classes at Sir John Deane’s College and Hartford Village Hall.

She also holds one off workshops in schools and colleges about Indian culture including Bollywood dance and Indian arts and crafts.

Last year Lalita held children’s classes in Leftwich, which proved a hit with youngsters, so she has now decided to bring a taste of Bollywood to Davenham children.

She said: “The parents keep requesting for me to host a children’s class.

"I used to run a club at Leftwich Primary school.

“So the parents came to know the children loved Bollywood dance as well. That is how I decided to give it a go.

“The children loved it, and I gave them the opportunity to perform at a Bollywood night a Northwich Memorial Hall, which was organised by the Joshua Tree.”

Lalita has lived in Kingsmead for five years and has made a name for herself with her dance talents.

In March, Lalita helped raise more than £3,000 for children’s cancer charity The Joshua Tree during a Bollywood night at Northwich Memorial Court.

This was the second year Lalita’s Namastey India performed at Memorial Court.

Lalita said: “People have been very welcoming, really nice. I have a lot of great support from good people.

“I am really happy with them, there are some wonderful people around.”
