FIREFIGHTERS have now put out the bus fire on the M6 and two lanes are now reopened.
A bus caught fire this morning shortly after 10am and a full closure of the southbound carraigeway between junctions 16 and 17 was put in place by police.
The incident happened just north of the exit slip road at junction 16 of the motorway at Barthomley at around 10.20am when the double decker bus caught fire in lane one. Only the driver was on board the vehicle and escaped unhurt.
Lanes two and three have now been reopened but lane one will remain clsoed through the night for resurfacing.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire Service said: “Firefighters were called to a double decker bus on fire on the M6. Three hose reels were used fighting the fire.
"Thick black smoke was coming from the vehicle and the carriageway was closed while the incident was dealt with. There are no casualties at this incident."
