THE flavours and colours of India will be brought vividly to life at Northwich's first Bollywood night this month.

The event takes place at Northwich Memorial Court at 7pm on Friday, February 26, and will feature Bollywood dance performances, live music, a lavish Indian gala buffet and a disco.

It is being organised by The Joshua Tree charity, Kanya Cafe Bar and Bistro, in High Street, and Lalita's Namastey India.

Sara Wheater, from The Joshua Tree, said: "It's going to be really nice to have an evening full of colour to get us through the winter – it will welcome in the spring.

"We want to make the room at Memorial Court full of colour, movement, sound and smells and want to create a real wow factor as people come in.

"A Bollywood night has never happened in Northwich before."

Food will be provided by Kanya, which holds a monthly Taste of India night, and owner Nagendra Kumar Prasad is aiming high with his menu.

"This is an exhibition for us as well and we want to do everything possible from the food side to show people what a small cafe can do," he said.

"The menu I have designed is completely different to what I would normally offer here.

"People think of Indian food as a curry but I've been talking to my friends who are head chefs in India and want to show off what we can do in terms of food."

Bollywood dance will be performed by Lalita Sivakumar, from Kingsmead, and students from her Lalita's Namastey India Bollywood dance classes at Sir John Deane's College and Hartford Village Hall.

Tickets, priced £25, are available at thejoshuatree.org.uk/events, by ringing 01606 331858 or by visiting The Joshua Tree, in Venables Road, or Kanya, in High Street.

Lalita is also holding a Bollywood and Bhangra dance workshop at Northwich Memorial Court on Saturday, February 6.

The workshop runs from 11.45am to 1pm and registration is at 11.30am.

Admission is £10.
