A NORTHWICH man was rushed to hospital with injuries to his stomach following an incident at a flat in Winsford.
According to neighbours on Byley Way in the town, the victim has been identified as Craig Howman, 23, from Northwich.
He was transported to Wythenshawe Hospital for emergency surgery following the incident, which occurred at around 7.05am on Sunday, October 18.
A police spokesman said: “I can confirm that a 47-year-old man has been charged with Section 18 – Wounding with Intent following an incident in Winsford.
“The incident was reported to officers at 7.05am on Sunday, October 18 at an address on Byley Way.
“The victim, a 23-year-old man is currently recovering at the University Hospital South Manchester, where he has been treated for injuries to his stomach.”
John Bird, 23, of Byley Way, said he had trained with Craig at Boxing Fit Academy in Northwich.
He described Craig as a ‘nice lad’ and was ‘shocked’ when he heard the news.
John said: “All I know is that the air ambulance picked him up from just over the road and he’s gone to Wythenshawe Hospital.
“He’s quite a nice lad to be honest so I wouldn’t say it’s anything expected. I was quite shocked when I heard.”
Following his surgery, Craig took to Facebook to thank his well-wishers.
“Appreciate all message for concern,” he said.
He later posted: “Literally has only just dawned on me I nearly died last night. Was a massive wake up call for me in life, not looking for any sympathy but wouldn’t want that happen to anyone.
“Would like to thank my mum and dad for coming to see me and for all they did whilst here and my brother for coming, have an amazing family and feel blessed.”
A number of well-wishers took to Facebook to wish Craig a speedy recovery.
Debora Ohora said: “Glad you’re okay Craig, big wake up call, life is precious.”
Adele Bebbington-Plant said: “Get well soon Craig. Now without meaning to sound old n boring, how about a lifestyle change now?”
Andrew Murray, 47, of Byley Way, was arrested at the scene and later charged with wounding with intent.
Murray, of Byley Way, appeared before Cheshire Magistrates on Monday, October 19. He was remanded in custody and will appear before Chester Crown Court on November 4.
