CHILDREN at Comberbach Primary School have been learning about road safety to coincide with Walk to School Week.
The Cheshire West and Chester Council road safety team held a road safety assembly at the school, giving general advice on how to stay safe as pedestrians, cyclists and in-car, and highlighting issues outside the school gate caused by congestion when children are driven to and from school.
Following the assembly pupils from year five and six took part in a road safety quiz highlighting environmental, health and road safety issues, whilst years three and four completed workbooks on how to cross the road safely through the council’s Let’s Walk scheme.
The younger pupils at the schools enjoyed a storytime session that focused on how to stay safe as pedestrians, and learned about the Green Cross Code with a reminder to Stop, Look, Listen and Think before and while they cross the road, and a reminder to stay close and to hold hands with the adult they are walking with when out and about.
Councillor Mark Henesy said: “We need to highlight the importance of staying fit and healthy and Walk to School Week was a perfect time to do this.
“We hope now the weather is beginning to improve we will see an increase in children walking to school with friends, which in turn will help to reduce congestion around the school gate.”
