VOTERS can find out more about the candidates in the running for the Weaver Vale seat at a hustings in Hartford.
The event will take place at St John's Church from 7.15pm on Sunday, April 19, and will be chaired by the Rev Mike Smith.
The church held its first hustings in the run up to the 2010 General Election when the seat passed from retiring Labour MP Mike Hall to the Conservative Graham Evans.
Mr Smith said: "Last time, we had a lively, engaging, frank but respectful exchange of views from the three main candidates.
"This time, recognising the changing times, we’ve invited all six candidates for Weaver Vale in the hope of a similarly vigorous debate.”
He added that the use of the church for the hustings was a link to the history of democracy.
"The House of Commons began its life in a Christian chapel – reflecting the deep Christian roots of our democracy and freedoms," he said.
"Where better to have our local debate?"
The hustings is being organised by St John’s church member and recent graduate Alex Hunns.
He said: "Graham Evan’s margin in 2010 was razor thin, and a tiny movement in the mind of the electorate either way could see a new representative for our constituency elected, potentially from a party entirely new to our constituency.
"I am hoping to see as many people as possible gather to meet the candidates and discuss their opinions, their policies and their philosophy."
Coffee will be served from 7.15pm with an opportunity to submit written questions.
Questions may also be emailed in advance to election2015@stjohnshartford.org.
Depending on the number submitted, only a selection may be addressed during the event.
There will be a shortened evening service at 6.30pm.
