A SPIN instructor from Winsford is organising the cycling challenge of a lifetime in memory of her mum.
Carol Roberts has inspired two teams of four to race from London to Paris and back in 24 hours, all without leaving the comfort of The Old Star, in Swanlow Lane.
The teams will start on Wattbikes at 9am on April 18 and pedal overnight in relays until 9am on April 19.
It will also feature Wattbike challenges and games for members of the public to join at the event.
Ged O'Hara, of Winnington-based Cheshire Power Cycling, has been coaching the teams for free since August last year.
Carol, who works at DW Fitness, in Winsford, said: "I've done challenges, running marathons and triathlons and obstacle events and that's easier than this.
"This is just something else.
"You get such a build up of lactic acid in your legs because you're pushing so hard.
"On the screen you can see your power, your watts and how many you're pushing through your legs.
"You want to get that number up because we as humans are very competitive."
She added: "I'm pushing 3.2 over 20 minute at functional threshold power, which means I'm pushing three times my body weight through my legs.
"I just think of the reason why I'm doing it – Mum was in pain every day but I'm on the bike for a short temporary time, it's nothing to what she endured."
Carol, 40, lost her mum Ann Emmott in July last year.
Ann suffered from cerebellar ataxia, a neurological disorder which affects movement.
The Wattbike Challenge, which is being sponsored by My Protein, Wattbike and The Old Star, is to raise money for the Scoliosis Association UK and St Luke's Hospice.
It follows a Spinathon Carol organised last year which raised awareness of ataxia and raised £5,000 for charity.
Carol is also a longstanding cycle commuter and has even been cycling from Winsford to her training sessions in Winnington.
"I've been cycling in all weathers," she said.
"I've raced the bus home before now, little incentives like that.
"It's an amazing thing to do that yourself."
She hopes plenty of supporters will come along for the challenge.
"I'm hoping to get cycling clubs down going on the Wattbike and raising some more money for charity," she said.
