POLICE are holding an investigation after a ‘free for all’ brawl broke out among gangs of males on Wheelock Street.
The violence occurred in the town centre on Saturday, September 27, outside the White Bear although it is thought that those involved had come from elsewhere.
Beverley Bryning, landlady of The Vaults on Wheelock Street, which is nearby to where the incident happened, went outside to attempt to break up the fight.
Beverley said: “I was upstairs when I heard the noise outside and when I looked out there was a big gang of lads fighting.
“I called the police and then went outside to try and stop it but it looked quite harsh, it was just like a free for all.
“It’s a shame because I can’t remember the last time we had violence like this in the town centre.
“I think they had come from out of town but they 100 per cent did not come from The Vaults.”
Middlewich Police Team and North West Ambulance Service were on the scene and police arrested one 21-year-old male.
Sgt Mike Beamish, of Middlewich Police Team, said: “We got a call about a group of males causing disturbance and a couple of witnesses have reported numerous fights going on.
“When we got there, we arrested one 21-year-old male to prevent breach of peace.
“We are currently looking at CCTV and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
A spokesperson from North West Ambulance Service said: “We received the call at 9pm to Wheelock Street in Middlewich where a male had been assaulted and was treated for loss of consciousness. The patient was taken to the police station.”
If you have any information about the incident call 101 quoting incident reference number 888 of September 27.
