A CHILDREN'S cancer charity based in Northwich has joined a global campaign to encourage people to give.

The Joshua Tree has joined #GivingTuesday, which aims to inspire people to give their time, money or voice to charity for the day.

The day, on December 2, follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is set to provide a charitable antidote to the pre-Christmas consumer boom.

It is hoped that #GivingTuesday in the UK will replicate the successes of the US, which has seen a huge spike in donations on the day.

Sara Wheater, from The Joshua Tree, said: “At such a busy time of the year it can sometimes be hard to commit to charity work but we are asking for a single feelgood ‘give’ from people as a distraction from the shopping, present wrapping and chaos that the festive season brings. "One single ‘give’ on #GivingTuesday will make such a difference to our work with families of children with cancer across Cheshire.”

The Joshua Tree is asking supporters to give either a cash donation, an item for a raffle prize, a couple of hours to bagpack, ‘give up’ something for the day and be sponsored, ‘giveup’ space on social media platforms to spread the word about The Joshua Tree or ‘give’ the Joshua Tree a pledge to raise £250 in the next 12 months for the charity.
