VILLAGE war memorials have been given a facelift in time for Remembrance commemorations.
Sign writer and maker Steve Barlow undertook the painstaking work to restore the lettering on the memorials at Lostock Gralam and Lostock Green.
The memorials feature the names of local men who gave their lives for their country in both world wars.
Steve, from Macclesfield, cleaned each of the raised lead letters before sealing them and repainting them.
It was the first time he had worked on war memorials, and the restoration gave him a great deal of satisfaction.
“It was quite moving restoring the names of men who had lost their lives,” said Steve, whose father Thomas served in The Second World War.
“People came up to me while I was working at Lostock Gralam and said it was nice to see that the memorial was being looked after.”
This year’s Remembrance commemorations have a special significance, being part of events taking place to mark the centenary of the outbreak of The First World War.
