MIDDLEWICH councillor Peter Hirst has been selected to be the Liberal Democrats candidate for the Congleton constituency in the 2015 general election.

Cllr Hirst, who has previously stood in Congleton in 2010, was selected at a meeting at The Broughton Arms in Rode Heath, following a question and answer session that followed set speeches.

Cllr Hirst said, “I am very happy, proud and relieved to once again have the honour to represent the Liberal Democrats in Congleton Constituency at next May’s General Election.

“I intend to build upon our excellent result in 2010 when we achieved clear second position status.

“The political scene has however changed considerably. Not only have we been a member of the Coalition Government, we also have the rise of UKIP and The Green Party to contend with.”

“All this together with the dissatisfaction of the Conservative locally, especially over the Local Plan and five year housing supply, leads to an interesting eight months ahead.”
