MIDDLEWICH Rail Campaigners are now looking to Cheshire Fresh developers Pochins and other investors in the project to use their power to help revitalise the town’s rail link.

The campaign to bring back the train station in Middlewich has been active since 1992 and campaigners have become frustrated with the lack of progress over recent years.

Leaders of the campaign say progress has been halted due to the two major parties Cheshire East and Network Rail refusing to hold conversations about the possibility of a Middlewich train station.

However, they are now looking for support from various Middlewich businesses who are involved in the development of Cheshire Fresh, who they say can put pressure on Cheshire East and Network Rail.

Dave Roberts, Chairman of the Middlewich Rail Link Campaign, said: “We need Network Rail and Cheshire East to talk, and we won’t get anywhere until that happens.

“I will be writing to Pochins who are heavily involved in Cheshire Fresh because they are showing interest in reopening the railway because it fits into their development.

“I also wrote to Wright Marshall who are another business involved and I think these businesses can put pressure on Cheshire East and Network Rail because they have a lot of power with the Cheshire Fresh development.

“We need them on our side and we have a good idea that they are on our side already because it fits in with Cheshire Fresh plans beautifully.”

The campaign also has the backing of many Middlewich Town Councillors.

Cllr Peter Hirst said: “I’m confident that at some stage soon there will be sufficient momentum because Cheshire Fresh will come in eventually and the road system then will just grind to a halt.

“The bus service is terrible in Middlewich and if we get the railway station then at least we’ve got something.”
