CREWE Clean Team reached a milestone after recycling their 50,000th aluminium can.

As well as collecting cans during their regular litter pick events, the tidy team’s 78-year-old ‘can man’, Peter Taylor, goes out in all weathers to collect discarded cans and keep Crewe’s streets clean.

“Our members are justifiably proud of this achievement, which represents 50 cans recycled on each day of the group’s existence,” explained clean team chairman, David McDonald.

“The vast majority of these cans have been collected as litter from the streets and open spaces of our town.

"Many have been collected during our regular group litter picks, but most by our can man, Peter Taylor, who is becoming a familiar figure as he continues his 'Crewesade' to rid our town of this form of litter.

“We would like to thank Neil Tilley and his son Mike at Houston and Sons Ltd for supporting the team in this endeavour by being prepared to receive consignments of any size.”
