CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is looking for young people in Crewe and Nantwich to become Fire Cadets.

The Service is keen to recruit young people aged 12 to 17 years to take part in the hands-on training scheme.

Cadets get to use firefighting equipment, including hoses, fire appliances and completing ladder drills, as well as taking part in various other outdoor activities.

The courses promises fun, enjoyment, the chance to learn new social skills and potentially obtain a professional qualification.

Vicky Wrest, Cadet Manager for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Being a cadet with the service is an excellent opportunity for young people and gives them the opportunity to develop personally as well as learn about self discipline and team work.”

As part of a continual training and development programme, the cadets will be provided with a free fire kit and uniform similar to that worn by firefighters, and will take part in a drill night one evening a week at the local fire station.

Apart from drill nights cadets also take part in additional activities at weekends and during the school holidays which include residential stays, local camps, and national camp trips.

Cadets also fundraise for international projects throughout the year, which includes young people from the Cheshire Cadet units having the opportunity to go overseas on exchange visits to help with community projects and to build schools.

Cheshire East Fire Cadet units meet at fire stations one evening a week for two hours to take part in a drill night.
