A coach load of ramblers alighted at Chapel-en-le-Frith on a bright and breezy morning.
Karen Midgley led her “A” Group to their first ascent of the day at Eccles Pike with great views towards Edale.
Continuing on to Combs reservoir they then climbed steeply on to open access land before traversing Combs Edge, Black Edge, and Short Edge with fantastic views of Derbyshire all the way before descending back to Chapel having completed 15 miles and 2000 ft of ascent.
Steve Thomas and his “B” Group headed first for the steep climb to the summit of South Head then descended part way to pick up the next climbing path to the summit of Mount Famine.
With a fresh breeze picking up they descended to Peep O’ Day before climbing to a path below Chinley Churn.
A sunny ice cream break was taken at Buxworth Basin before following the canal back to Chapel having completed 10.5 miles and 2200 ft of ascent.
David (not far now) Brunt led his “C” Group out of Chapel to the base of Coombs Reservoir and also visited Buxworth Basin via Tunstead Milton and then the climb up to Hilltop. Descending south they picked up the railway track and followed it back to Chapel having completed eight miles.
Jude Halman headed north from Chapel with her “D” Group on their climb of the day to give them fabulous views over the area. Turning west they reached Combs reservoir which they circumnavigated to Combs village before heading back via the park to Chapel having completed six miles.
All parties celebrated a great day out by visiting the numerous cafes and hostelries in Chapel. Thanks to the coach organisers and walk leaders.
