BERYL Weir from Crafts in the Dungeon was the guest speaker at the September meeting with her workshop in felt making.
After a short demonstration everyone had a go at making a felted coaster with the aid of a jug of water, a few drops of washing up liquid, two pieces of bubble wrap, some lengths of coloured fleece and a lot of elbow grease!
The book club is now trialling meetings at outside venues, the first of which was held at Wyevale Garden Centre.
The walking group have enjoyed many lovely summer evening strolls, often finishing at the Plough for refreshment.
The evening craft group will continue for those who want to finish off their own projects or to learn something new from the many skilled craftspeople at WI keen to share their knowledge.
The quarterly lunch group meets at various pubs and restaurants, and the more local soup and sandwich group meets at the Mews and donates surplus funds to a designated local charity each year.
The biggest event of the year, the village show, was as usual a great day. Members put on this event for the enjoyment of the whole community and beyond, with many visitors arriving to view the fantastic baking, crafts, art, photography, flower arranging and horticulture.
There was also a children’s section, this year won by a six-year-old named George with his “junk model” and “most items in a match box”.
There was also an array of inventive sock puppets entered for the Juniors Section, with many entries from Whitegate Brownies.
