THE club has enjoyed the last summer visit of 2014. They were lucky enough to have dry weather for both visits and the social event this year which must be a record.

For their last visit they went to Bowmere Cottage in Tarporley. The garden is open as part of the RHS open garden scheme as well as for gardening clubs.

They were made very welcome by the owners who showed them around their lovely cottage style garden.

The garden includes cottage garden borders with mixed perennials around two large lawns, a small vegetable garden and a most attractive small courtyard garden containing pots of plants on a blue and yellow theme.

Although it was quite late in the season there was still plenty of colour and interest; the hydrangeas were at their peak with several varieties in bloom in shades of blue, pink and white, they made a stunning display.

Members were able to enjoy tea and cake sitting outside in the warm evening sunshine. It is certainly a garden to visit again.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, September 30 at 7.30pm in the University Academy Primary School, Northwich Road, Weaverham.

It promises to be a very interesting evening with speaker Martin Blow from Special Perennials Nursery in Hankelow near Audlem who was recently seen on Gardener’s World showing Carol Klein round his garden and his national collection of heleniums.

He will be talking about "Growing and Caring for Day Lilies" and will be bringing plants for sale.

New members and visitors welcome. Call 01606 852671 or see www.weaverhamgardeners.btck.co.uk
