THE grim realities facing local British Tommies in the trenches will be brought to life at Nantwich Museum this weekend.
The Cheshire Pals re-enactment group will feature during the final day of the Nantwich and the First World War exhibition this Saturday, September 27.
The group will represent the 4th Battalion Cheshire Regiment, which was engaged in fierce front line fighting throughout the Great War.
“When war broke out in August 1914, the 4th Battalion was immediately mobilised. The Cheshire Pals group aim to create living history by re-enacting and explaining the life and times of those at the front and those on the Home Front,” explained a museum spokesman.
“Faithful in their reproduction of the dress, materials and manner of their presentation, this is a great experience for anyone wanting to know more about the period.”
Based at the Cheshire Regiment Museum in Chester, the group meets regularly to display the equipment and lifestyle of the period.
The museum will open at 10.30am on Saturday. Admission is free.
Nantwich Museum’s ongoing First World War exhibition is being financed by a Heritage Lottery Fund(HLF) grant of £3,800 covering the cost of the display materials, interactive elements, a programme of events and accompanying literature.
It has also enabled members of the museum involved in its development to make fact-finding visits to other museums.
