THE issue of vandalism on children’s play areas in Middlewich has once again been made clear after dog excrement was smeared over a slide on Cow Estate.
Parents in Middlewich are constantly battling with the problem surrounding the upkeep of the town’s parks and play areas with issues such as broken glass and graffiti being reported.
But now the problem seems to have got far worse as one parent discovered.
Father-of-two Chris Adlington, 33, took his children to play on the Cow Estate play area on Sunday, September 21, to find the park’s slide smeared with a large amount of dog excrement.
Chris said: “I took my children to the park to find someone had smeared dog poo all over the slide.
“I'm utterly embarrassed by the fact that someone has done this to our local park.
“Although I'm embarrassed by the fact that someone who lives in the local vicinity has done this I also want to shame them beyond belief.”
Chris reported the incident to the Middlewich Town Council who then relayed the message to Cheshire East Council on Monday morning.
A maintenance team from Cheshire East Council cleaned the slide on Monday morning and say the park is now fit for use.
A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: “It appears that somebody emptied the content of a dog waste bin all over the play equipment.
“We immediately diverted one of our maintenance teams to the site and they cleaned the play equipment.
“The play area was ready for use again within two hours of Cheshire East Council being informed about the problem.”
This comes amid ongoing complaints regarding the state of the town’s many play areas and the problem of vandalism on them.
Vandalism on the play areas also caused many members of the Middlewich Clean Team to state last month that they were no longer prepared to clean the town’s parks.
