A VOLUNTEER group in Crewe have been presented with a cheque in support of their hard work in looking after a town park.
In a recent visit to Queen’s Park in Crewe, leader of Cheshire East Council Clr Michael Jones presented community action group Queens’s Park ANTs with a cheque for £1,000 to support their work.
Clr Jones said: “This is a great achievement for the people of Crewe – it’s a local people led enterprise to make the park work.
“They’ve called themselves Action Not Talk and they’ve certainly produced the action, and it’s been fantastic! I can also see that the Friends of The Park have been very strong and supportive in helping to pull it all together, and I think it is brilliant.”
Kirsty Taylor, co-founder of the ANTs (Action Not Talk) and fundraiser for the Friends of Queen’s Park, said: “We’d like to thank Cheshire East for this grant, which is going to be put to good use.
“The money will help us to fund the marketing of our campaign; communicating what it is we’re trying to do here and to ensuring that we secure longevity in the work of The Friends of Queen’s Park, The ANTs and all of the other groups that support the park.
“What we hope to do is to bring everyone together in some unity to drive the park forward in to the future – giving it back to the people of Crewe and inviting them along to join in, give a helping hand, and to take ownership of the park itself.”
Charlie Griffies, business manager for parks and grounds at Ansa environmental services, added: “The work that The ANTs are doing around the park is making a real difference – working alongside our core staff, these volunteers regularly give their time to improve the park for everyone to enjoy.”
