GREEN-fingered tenants in Winsford scooped honours in Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s annual garden competition.
Frank and Barbara Holden of Woodford Lane won the award for Best Patio Garden.
The plot has been five years in the making, and their half-decade endeavour hasn’t gone un-noticed by impressed neighbours – who fashioned them a sign reading: ‘Frank’s Garden, Genius at Work’.
After making their own plot a wonderful splash of colour they also agreed to take on a small area of dead space next to them and have created a fantastic many-tiered garden.
Frank said: “The extra space used to be all overgrown and a mess but we only decided to give the competition ago when someone suggested we should enter. We couldn’t believe it when we won.”
Another Winsford garden came out tops in the Best Communal Garden category, with keen gardeners Paul Barnett and Alan Scott from Alamein Drive taking the title for their efforts in transforming a shared area into a place they and their neighbours can enjoy.
Customers from across the trust’s neighbourhoods in Northwich, Winsford and the surrounding areas entered the annual contest.
