A YOUNG Winsford woman with cystic fibrosis was treated to a birthday to remember, following a Facebook campaign led by charitable local businesses.
Stacie Verdin enjoyed a fantastic 32nd birthday as part of Guyz 'n' Dollz Hairdressers’ online contest to reward a worthy individual with a free new hair-do.
Stacie, who has been in hospital for three weeks for treatment, told the Guardian she was shocked at being nominated and then declared the winner of the competition.
"My sister-in-law nominated me and one of my best friends and it just went from there," she said.
"It's going to be a day that focuses around me and normally its all about treatment and looking after the children so this will be for me.
"It's a fantastic prize and I was so shocked by the comments that I couldn't believe it and all the comments brought tears to my eyes."
But after seeing the overwhelming online response to Stacie’s story, salon owner, Leeanne Forsey, decided the mother of two deserved an even bigger treat.
She called in friends at Anita Nails in Nixon Drive, Saffi Boutique in Blakemere and the Brighton Belle pub to commit to giving her a full makeover and night on the tiles.
“The competition started going through the roof with all the Facebook likes it was getting,” said Leeanne.
“Stacie had tremendous support. Six or seven people nominated her independently of one another.
“It was really heart wrenching; people were saying they had been crying while reading about what she’s been though.”
“I didn’t know Stacie before; but I feel as though I’m her best friend now.
“I’ve realised that we’ve got a lot of good people in this town.
“The whole experience has made me realise that people in Winsford really care about others when there is a good cause to get behind.”
