YEAR six pupils from schools around Middlewich were given a glimpse of what life was like during the First World War as part of the Centenary Commemoration festival.
The pupils, who came from Middlewich Primary, St Mary’s, Cledford, Wimboldsley, Warmingham and Byley, visited Middlewich High School over three days between Wednesday, September 10, and Friday, September 12, to take part in a First World War re-enactment and drama workshop.
The workshops were run by the school’s history department with some year 10 pupils also helping out.
Funding for the workshops came from the Heritage Lottery fund through Middlewich Town Council.
Caroline Beechener, head of the history department at Middlewich High, said: “The workshops have been a great way for children to learn about the First World War through hands on experience and interaction.
“It has been a privilege for so many children in the community to have had this opportunity.”
The re-enactment workshops were led by Jason King, who is an expert in the First World War and collects artefacts from it.
The story was about soldiers who were drafted or volunteered into the war, and the pupils dressed up in clothing from that period to help them imagine the experiences of soldiers in the war.
Some of the Middlewich High year 10 pupils are also performing in a drama production about the First World War in the Middlewich Civil Hall on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5.
