THE United Reformed Church in Winsford will mark their bi-centennial celebrations with a special fundraising event.
On Saturday, September 27, the URC in Swanlow Lane will open in the afternoon for visitors to view the church decorated for Harvest.
Refreshments will be served between 2.30pm – 4.30pm with all proceeds donated to the Macmillan Big Coffee Morning event.
Church Secretary, Ros Ellison, said: “This year is a special year for the church since it is 200 years since the first Congregational Church was established in Over.
“Macmillan Cancer Support encourages groups to raise funds through a variety of activities not just Coffee mornings, so we decided to open the church, to invite people to come and see it decorated for Harvest and to offer afternoon tea and cake instead.
“We hope people will take the opportunity to view the decorations which will include fruit and vegetables typically associated with a Harvest Festival and enjoy refreshments at the same time.”
“The Church regularly takes donations of food to Christians Against Poverty which is an organisation operating out of Christ Church, Wharton.
“The non-perishable foods which are donated as part of the Harvest celebrations will also be donated to Christians Against Poverty which helps anyone who is struggling to make ends meet, not just church-goers.”
The Harvest Festival service will take place on Sunday, September 28 at 10.30am and be led by Mrs Ruth Hatton.
The Harvest Supper which concludes the weekend of festivities will be held on Monday, September 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the church.
