AIRPORT worker Becky Wild will be stepping out this month in memory of her father.

Becky, 28, will be taking part in The Christie Charity’s Walk of Hope at Tatton Park on September 20.

She will be walking in memory of retired police officer John Wild, who died on July 24 aged 69.

John had battled cancer for almost three years, having developed a sarcoma on his inner thigh.

Becky, from Moulton, was determined to raise £1,000 for The Christie Charity before her father died, and managed to achieve that on the day he died.

She has now doubled her new target to £2,000, and is less than £200 from that goal thanks to support from family and friends.

Becky, a passenger services agent at Manchester Airport, said: “The more money we can raise the better if it can help to prevent other deaths.

“The Christie was fantastic. They gave my dad a few extra years of life, and we can’t thank them enough.

“His death is still fresh and raw for us, but if our fundraising can save another person’s life then it won’t be in vain.

“I would like to thank everyone who has given donations and has supported our family and friends.”

The 10-kilometre Walk of Hope is a gentle stroll around the grounds of Tatton Park, and honours the courage of those battling cancer and those who have lost the fight.

More than 500 people will be taking part in the event, which begins with the launch of the doves of peace at 5pm.

Midway through the walk loved ones have the opportunity to throw a pebble, inscribed with the name of the person they are taking part in honour of, into Tatton Mere.

The evening concludes with live music and a candle-lit gathering at dusk.

Those taking part can arrive from 4pm, and have a chance to decorate a candle lantern with a message of hope before setting off on the walk.
