A SEVENTY-three-year-old photographer from Middlewich is embarking on his mission to teach modern technology skills to residents.

Cliff Astles, from Falcon Close, Middlewich, set up his community group, 21st Century Technology and Photography, in March and has since seen the group take off in the short time.

The group is non-profit and was set up to teach novices how to use a camera as well as give advice on all kinds of modern technology such as mobile phones and laptops.

Cliff used to work in IT before retiring and has been a keen photographer since the age of 14.

He said: “There are other camera clubs in the area and they’re really good, but I noticed that they’re all for professional photographers producing competition winning pictures.

“There wasn’t anything for people who have a camera and want to learn how to use it so I thought I’d use my time and experience to help people learn about it.”

“It has taken off really well since we started we are getting more and more member all the time but I really want it to become a group with a real community feel and we are now applying for grants so we can take it further.”

The group now has more than 70 members and Cliff is determined to get more people involved who may need help with any kind of technology.

Cliff is also keen to ensure that everyone is welcome to join the group, with members of all ages and making it easy for people with disabilities.

Cliff added: “We go on instructional photo outings to places like Alderley Edge Nature Reserve and we always make sure that there is access for wheelchair’s and scooters and carers come along for free.”
