AT the September meeting members heard the sad news that Hilda Williamson, a longstanding and valued member, had recently passed away. A minute’s silence was held in her memory.
Members brought entries for the produce show. The display of flower arrangements, garden and cooked produce, handicrafts and photography were a sight to behold.
The standard of entries was high, and the overall winner was Rika Griffiths. Other cup winners include Lyn Woodward and Frances Evans. Members enjoyed taking part and the display of entries was admired throughout the evening.
Jane Bell thanked Kathy Baldwin for arranging the enjoyable and successful trip to Anglesey.
Future events include: group bowls on September 17; lunch at The Old Hall in Frodsham on September 22; there is a proposed outing to Port Sunlight in October.
Some members are attending the CFWI autumn meeting on October 7 at the Winsford Lifestyle Centre.
Speaker for the evening was Jane Langdon, who gave an interesting and inspiring talk about her experiences as a volunteer for ‘Riding for the Disabled’.
RDA was first established 40 years ago and there are over 500 groups in the UK.
Their mission statement is “It’s what you can do that counts”, and RDA is dedicated to enabling people to experience life-changing activities.
Riding a horse provides therapy and enjoyment for all ages.
Volunteers help people with a vast range of disabilities and if it is at all possible to get someone on the back of a horse they will.
Sometimes they need 18 volunteers to manage just six riders, and it is all very expensive. Jane explained how they raise funds and made it clear that helping the RDA is a worthwhile and very rewarding experience.
The next meeting is October 7 at 7.30pm in Crowton Village Hall with speaker Ian Ballard, a poet and writer.
Visitors and potential new members always welcome.
