RUGBY players put their pedal power to the test to help raise money for little Amelia Hill.
Amelia was born in October 2012 with serious heart defects, and the Northwich community has rallied round to stage events to pay for a holiday to Disneyland Paris for Amelia and her parents Andrew and Zoe.
Members of Winnington Park Rugby Club took part in a sponsored bike ride for the appeal for Amelia with members of Weaver Valley Cycling Club.
The run was called Amelia’s Journey, and 45 riders took part in the 50-mile round trip to the Eureka Cafe on the Wirral and back to the rugby club at Winnington.
The event was organised by John Pickering from the rugby club and Julian Perrett from the cycling club, and raised £440 for the appeal.
“Despite the damp start the day was a great success, and there were so many riders we had to split into three groups for safety,” said Weaver Valley runs captain Alan Silver.
“Considering that most rugby club members had never ridden in groups before with a cycling club they grasped the challenge and completed the route.
“A few rugby club members said they enjoyed the ride with Weaver Valley so much they will be joining the club and riding with us again.”
