A FIRST World War Mark 1 tank trundled off the production line into the Winsford Cross Shopping Centre this week.
The scale model has been created by Wisford artist, Derek Johnson, of the Cheshire Artists Network, for this year’s Salt Fair and Great War centenary commemorations.
Winsford children got involved with project, helping cover the machine in educational materials from the Imperial War Museum.
Kids across town have also made their own smaller versions of the vehicle, using a template designed by Derek and distributed to schools.
Meanwhile, CAN are busy delivering an even bigger art piece – a First World War era Zeppelin, codenamed CW7.
The 20ft long willow-framed airship is under construction in its hanger – the Branded Clearance shop – before being installed at Chester University’s contemporary art space for CAN’s exhibition between July 2-31.
