In a break with tradition Cuddington & Sandiway WI decided to leave the formal Christmas lunch in December and go out in June instead Members’ Day.
A coach was arranged to take 38 members in their summer finery who had gathered for a mystery trip in the countryside. After much speculation, there was great excitement when they learnt that they were on their way to Port Sunlight in Wirral.
In the brilliant sunshine, members were given a tour of the village that was constructed by Lord Lever for his workers.
He provided everything: schools; leisure areas; medical facilities; library etc. to form a viable community in the most attractively managed rural setting, which is now part of the nation’s heritage.
Afterwards, some members visited the Lady Lever art gallery to see the pre-Raphaelite paintings. Others basked in the sun before enjoying a cream tea in the museum café.
The afternoon was rounded off with a generous raffle on the bus and a present of Pears soap for everyone. Carol Mickleburgh was thanked for organising it all and for managing to keep it a secret.
Members were reminded about providing cakes and help at the village gala this Saturday. They were also asked to ensure they complete the village survey so that the village plan can be completed.
New members are always welcome, please call 01606 888446 for details.
