GOWNS are being dusted off and floats prepared ready for Davenham Carnival on Saturday.
The traditional village event will start with a procession from Hartford Road at 12.30pm, which will make its way around the village to Butchers Stile field.
The opening ceremony will be at 1.30pm with a parade of retiring royalty, 2014 royalty and retinue and visiting queens.
Megan Keeling will be crowned 2014 carnival queen at 2pm.
A number of performances and displays will take place in the arena during the afternoon including Rumple the Clown, a gymnastics display, Davenham Primary School band, Punch and Judy and a grand draw.
There will also be a host of stalls and activities for visitors to enjoy.
Vicki Jones, from the organising committee, said: “It’s going to be really good.
“We haven’t had a procession for a couple of years which has meant that there’s been no grand entrance to the field and everyone has wandered in in their ball gowns.
“It’s a chance to get some money in for charity during the procession too.”
Davenham Parish Council has funded the costs of road closures and policing for the procession this year.
Vicki, who was named Miss Davenham in 2000, said: “It’s going to be an amazing day with a lot of fun on the field for all the family.”
