CHILDREN at Wharton Primary School have joined the U3A in a project to trace former pupils who died in the First World War.
Winsford University of the Third Age will be holding a memorial exhibition in Winsford Library on Saturday, August 2 as part of projects throughout town to mark the centenary of Britain’s involvement in The Great War.
Children at the school have embarked upon a project to trace school leavers who died in battle, while U3A members are conducting research into the names featured in the school plaque – which lists Wharton students who numbered among Winsford’s fallen.
The U3A is interested in hearing from anyone living in Winsford whose relatives served in the First World War, particularly if they have a story to recount or some memorabilia they are willing to exhibit or have copied for display.
