A MEMORIAL fund is getting closer to fulfilling its destiny in Davenham.
The parish council hopes to install memorial gates at Laburnum Road Playing Field in tribute to those who lost their lives in the Second World War.
They will be paid for from the Welcome Home Fund, which was set up around 60 years ago with the original aim of building a village hall in memory of the fallen.
Councillors have been speaking to suppliers about the gates and plan to draw up quotes for the trustees of the Welcome Home Fund.
Clr Brian Robinson said: “We want to have something of an appropriate standard and it has to be something that’s a memorial as that’s what the purpose of the fund was.
“It won’t be the same as an ordinary set of gates.”
