A CENTRE for adult learning is offering more courses to improve confidence and help people get back to work.
Northwich-based Cheshire Community Development Trust (CCDT), in Navigation Road, is offering new training courses for iPads among its range of computer based learning.
Jacquie Ledward, from the learning centre, said: “It’s all about getting people employability skills.”
CCDT has additional funding from Lloyds TSB and Awards for All to run a new Kikstart programme, which includes interactive training in iPads that leads to an industry recognised qualification in their use.
It teaches entry level computer use, how to write CVs and application letters and helps with registration on job websites.
The centre welcomes learners aged 19 and above.
As well as IT training, the centre also offers courses in literacy, numeracy, CV writing and confidence building.
Rudheath man Ian Dawson, 62, has dyslexia and finds courses at the centre invaluable.
Ian, who has volunteered with the British Red Cross for almost 30 years, also studies English and maths at Mid Cheshire College.
He said: “I’ve not been sat around doing nothing, I know I’ve got a problem so I’ve been trying my utmost to do computer courses, English, maths, anything that can help me.”
Ian has done confidence courses at the centre, which have resulted in him giving talks about the work of the British Red Cross.
“What makes this centre special is the atmosphere and friendliness of the people,” he said.
“You can ask any of the people teaching and they will come round, point things out to you and go through it.”
A new Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector course also starts in February.
